For those of you who misplace documents as often as I do, here are the Invitation Letter, the Nominee Biographies and the Agenda.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this year as I am, once again, a full time student.  I hope it's as productive and positive a meeting as last year's!

Today we kicked-off our one million dollar fundraising campaign to purchase  17.54 acres of land within the Agricultural Land Reserve on the Saanich Peninsula, Vancouver Island, British Columbia for a Campus of Care which will provide a spectrum of housing and care for seniors; allow seniors to age in place; and end the separation of elderly couples in the last years of their lives.
We invite you to take a look at our website,  www.abbeyfieldsaanichpeninsula.org  and consider joining us in making another Canadian Abbeyfield history* on the Peninsula.

]]><![CDATA[Lionel Wace Honoured!]]>Mon, 16 May 2011 13:11:24 -0800http://www.abbeyfield.ca/1/post/2011/05/lionel-wace-honoured.htmlLionel Wace who now resides in the Vancouver Abbeyfield House, was the guest of honor at a tea and presentation by the B.C. Trust at the Vancouver House on March 22nd. The presentation was made by Terry Whyte, President of B.C. Trust. Lionel was well known around B.C. for his work in setting up the B.C. Trust in 2001 and the development of the Kelowna Abbeyfield House in 1988. He was President of the B.C. Trust  for many years and was responsible for setting up the Reflections Contest for the benefit of any B.C. Societies who wished to participate and was  also keenly interested in making funds available to B.C. Societies for travel to meetings of the Chapter and for educational programs for Abbeyfield staff.  Regrettably the Kelowna House was closed after some years and was sold but the funds were put to good use through the B.C. Trust and a community Trust in Kelowna where Lionel had worked and lived for many years. Terry gave an excellent presentation and noted an e-email contribution from Bob McMullan, the head of National Abbeyfield for many of those same years. Terry then presented Lionel with a Mantel Clock to be placed in the Vancouver Abbeyfield House where Lionel could be reminded of the many lives he influenced over a "long period of time". Lionel's two sons were present for the occasion as were Camil Dufort, Chris Pederson and Gwen Fletcher, Board members of the B.C. Trust. Maureen Douglas, Chair of the Vancouver House Board, hosted the event and  made the arrangements at the House including the lovely tea and goodies prepared by her Board members and staff. Lionel enjoyed the afternoon and many friends and associates were present to acknowledge and honor him. He is indeed a wonderful "Mr. Abbeyfield" now living in an Abbeyfield Residence!

Objectives of the Conference:

·         To provide an opportunity for delegates to share their experiences of Abbeyfield operations and development worldwide.
·         To consider the future strategy and workings of Abbeyfield and the International perspective
·         To consider alternative ideas for the creation and funding of new Abbeyfield houses and local societies.

Who should attend?

·         Each Abbeyfield National Society is invited to send at least one official delegate to represent that country.
·         Partners are welcome

Accommodation

·         A provisional block booking has been made at Hotel Napoleon, Via Federico Ozanam, 12, 20129 Milano, Italy +39 02 2952 0366 ‎ hotelnapoleonmilano.it  There will be a free coach transfer from the hotel to the conference venues.

Costs to delegates

·         All delegates are expected to cover the cost of their accommodation. €80 Single room only, €100 Double room only and €139 for a suite (2 double beds maximum 4 people) room only.  The suites are very limited so please advise early.
·         Breakfast costs
·         Friday and Sunday dinner
·         Travel costs from the home country to and from Milan
·         Any additional overnights at the hotel, additional meals, drinks and services

Travel

There are 3 main airports in Milan

·         Linate Airport (closest to centre)
·         Bergamo Orio Al Serio Airport (40 km north east of centre)
·         Malpensa International Airport (40 km west of centre)

Information required from delegates

·         Please complete Conference Delegate Form with all relevant information and return to Kate Martin at k.martin@abbeyfield.com or send to Kate Martin at Abbeyfield House, 53 Victoria Street, St Albans, Herts, AL1 3UW, England or Fax to 00 44 (0) 1727 846168 no later than Wednesday 16th February 2011.
·         If a response is not received by Wednesday 16th February we will assume no representative will attend from that country.
