


The Abbeyfield founder is honoured at the Daily Mirror
RETIRED Army major Richard Carr-Gomm beamed with pride as he accepted his lifetime achievement award from actress Angelica Huston.
Richard, now 83, has devoted much of his life to helping lonely people across Britain and around the world.

He founded the Abbeyfield Society, the Carr-Gomm Society and the Morpeth Society, all dedicated to housing or supporting those who are often forgotten by the rest of us.
After serving in the Second World War, Richard, now 83, left the Army in 1955 and used what little money he had to set up a service which would provide care and friendship to the lonely.
Since then his Abbeyfield Society has grown to provide accommodation for 10,000 elderly people throughout the country.
