Nine House Coordinators Meet in Tsawwassen, BC
The well-organized house coordinators in the Lower Mainland held a meeting in March to which they invited house coordinators from other parts of BC. They came from Kelowna, Courtenay, Victoria and Coquitlam. By all accounts, they had a very good meeting and discussed a number of topics including the following:
MEALS They felt that no substitutes should be made unless for an allergy. In one house a resident complained about the gourmet cooking and wanted ³plain² food, but most residents praise the food.
FAMILY SUPPORT Some felt that families could be more supportive.
HAPPY HOUR Happy Hours are usually held bi-weekly and sometimes monthly. Board members should arrange these and have volunteers to run activities.
BOARD INVOLVEMENT Some felt that board members could be more supportive and commit themselve to being there when issues arise.
EVALUATIONS They felt that a yearly performance evaluation would help to improve operations.
The house coordinators are key to the successful running of an Abbeyfield House.
