A Fantastic February in Armstrong
Jack Jamieson of Armstrong reports that on February 14, 2007, sponsors of the residents at Abbeyfield House of Armstrong hosted a Valentine’s Luncheon for board members. They provided hotcakes, sausages, bacon, mixed fresh fruit, cakes, tea and coffee. Everybody joined together to enjoy the luncheon. Each board member also received a Valentine’s card of thanks from the sponsors for all the efforts made on behalf of the residents. It was a wonderful time with a very happy home atmosphere.
The excitement continued the following day when several residents of Abbeyfield House of Armstrong met with the Honourable Iona Campagnolo, Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia (who is also the Patron of Abbeyfield Houses of British Columbia) during her official visit to Armstrong.
Abbeyfield staff, board members and sponsors arranged to transport four residents to the local museum and art gallery where an official welcome to Armstrong was extended by the City of Armstrong.
The Honourable Ms. Campagnolo had an opportunity to chat individually with the residents - Ann Harris, Joyce Gould, Betty Menzies and Helen Fujino - as she mingled with those gathered to greet her.
Her Honour spoke highly of the success of Abbeyfield Houses throughout the province. As a token to remember her visit to Armstrong, the Lieutenant-Governor was presented with a package of hand-painted note cards showing a pen and ink sketch of the Abbeyfield House of Armstrong.
