Dick will be sadly missed.
Dear friends:
It is with great sadness that I must tell you of the loss of a treasured national board member, and a pioneer in the creation of the life/lease project as a new approach to raising funds to build a new Abbeyfield house.
Richard Stanton (Dick) died on August 26 in Durham. He is survived by his wife, Marion who is resident at the Durham Abbeyfield house.
As chair of the Ontario Abbeyfield Chapter, Dick travelled regularly to communities around the province addressing community groups, participating in fairs, and offering advice and assistance to any society on request. He believed passionately in Abbeyfield and worked tirelessly to promote our work. Abbeyfield Societies of Markdale, a new project, was close to his heart and occupied his time to his last day.
As President, I always benefited from his advice and wisdom. I can truly say he was a mentor and he has left his stamp on all our national planning. We must honour his memory by continuing the work that he began.
It was Dick’s wish that any donation in his memory may be made to Abbeyfield Houses Society of Canada, 427 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON M5S 1X7.
I am sure Dick’s wife, Marion, would appreciate any messages of condolence. Her address is 165 Cross Street South, Durham, ON N0G 1R0.
Sincerely,
EJS
President
