Volunteer
The backbone of the Abbeyfield movement is the volunteer. World-wide there are over 13,000 Abbeyfield volunteers. Volunteering for Abbeyfield can include:
* Being a trustee of a society.
* Being a member of a house committee whose tasks are to manage the house and the house staff.
* Befriending the residents, talking with them, taking them shopping, to the doctors, to health appointments, organising and participating in social outings and many other tasks they may need help with.
* Sponsoring a resident. This is a vital role in the life of an Abbeyfield resident. Although it involves no financial commitment, the sponsor is there to look after a resident's interests and help to ensure that their needs are met. A sponsor may be one of a large circle of friends or the mainstay in a resident's life - what is important is your continuing interest and a readiness to give time and advice if and when it's needed.
* Helping raise funds for the building and continuing operations of a House.
* Installing and maintaining a computer for a resident so they can more easily access the Internet.

For more information on volunteering with Abbeyfield Canada, please contact the National Office or a local Abbeyfield Society near you. We welcome your commitment.
