A Welcome Home
“Best decision I have ever made. I was lonely.”
An Abbeyfield Resident
All Canadians cherish their independence, and that desire for independence does not diminish with age. Older Canadians are also living longer on average, and we are generally healthier and stay physically active longer as well. A recent survey revealed that 93 percent of Canadian seniors wish to “age in place,” choosing at the very least to stay in their communities as they grow older and remain close to family and friends.i Circumstances may not always allow this to happen, while living alone in one’s home can become dangerously isolating.
But what if there was an alternative to a large, impersonal retirement home or to moving in with one’s family, a way to remain independent that combined the comforts of home with congenial companionship and a worry-free lifestyle?
